With a new minute repeater for women, two new titanium-cased Octo models and a colorful selection of Serpenti designs, Bulgari in the new year has already previewed an enviable collection of new watches that plays to its technical and creative strengths.
The Italian-Swiss house, with a string of successful ultra-thin debuts at Baselworld in recent years, stays slim in 2018 by placing its already impressive manual-winding BVL 362 Finissimo movement into a jeweled minute repeater. At the same time Bulgari has played on the now emblematic titanium case/dial design of its ultra-thin Octo Finissimo trio from the past three years by debuting two new Octo models that echo that very contemporary look.
These new models are only a few of those Bulgari has already previewed to set the stage for a wider set of debuts at Baselworld in March.
Divas’ Dream Finissima
Not all super-slim movements have to be encased in watches thin on style and décor. Bulgari’s diamond-studded limited edition (ten pieces) Divas’ Dream Finissima proves that point. It features a pink gold 37mm case and a gold-flecked Urushi lacquer dial with diamond indexes and diamond-set small seconds at 6 o’clock. The Divas’ Dream collection fan motif is expressed here on the slide for the striking mechanism, which chimes the hours, quarters and minutes.
Inside, Bulgari’s super-thin manual-winding BVL 362 Finissimo movement drives the hours, minutes, small seconds and minute repeater, with 52 hours of power reserve; it is visible though the transparent caseback. The Divas’ Dream collection will also add a tourbillon model, to be made as a 50-piece limited edition. Prices upon request.
First introduced in 2012 and noted for its faceted case and modern styling, the top-selling Octo is this year making its debut in titanium in two models. The results combine the firm’s very successful Octo Collection case shape with the matte titanium dial and case finish found on its three record-setting ultra-thin Octo Finissimo models.
The new three-hand Octo L’Originale and the Octo L’Originale Chronograph measure 41mm in diameter. The chronograph features a titanium crown and a transparent caseback for viewing the high-frequency (El Primero-based) self-winding BVL 328 Velocissimo column wheel chronograph movement. The watch is fitted on a leather and rubber strap with a folding clasp in DLC-coated steel. The three-hand version is equipped with a mechanical self-winding movement (Calibre BVL 191 Solotempo) driving the hours, minutes, seconds and date functions. Prices: $7,150 (three-hand) and $10,200 (chronograph).
New Serpenti watches offer a multitude of interchangeable strap and bracelet options. Called Serpenti Twist Your Time, these models offer colorful leather straps for daily wear or a bracelet composed of several dainty pink gold chains, flowing around the wrist.
Four new variations will be available, including one limited edition available only in Bulgari’s New Curiosity Shop in Rome. That piece is a limited edition quartz-driven timepiece (20 pieces) will be available exclusively at the new concept store, an imaginatively designed art space destined to be the one-stop shop for all things Bulgari. It is located next to the historic boutique at No. 10 Via Condotti, which was formerly named the Old Curiosity Shop when first opened by Sotirio Bulgari in 1905.
The Serpenti Only in Rome features a pink gold case with diamonds on the bezel, while the caseback is engraved “Only in Rome.” Interchangeable straps are available in pink or blue metallic calf leather, and the mother-of-pearl dial has pink gold Roman numerals and indexes. Prices for Serpenti models begin at $6,500, and the Serpenti Only in Rome is listed at 11,000 euros.
Additional watches within the Serpenti (including new Tubogas and a new ceramic Serpenti), Divas’ Dream and Octo collections are also making their debut this year. Stay tuned for details about these and more new watches from Bulgari.
