Today we’ll look at eight more one-of-a-kind timepieces, each with an unusual twist guaranteed to attract bidders to the biennial Only Watch charity auction, slated for November 11 at Christie’s in Geneva.
In IW’s ongoing Only Watch coverage, which will continue for the next few weeks, we’ll share information about the watches, posted in no particular order. For the complete list, visit http://www.onlywatch.com/the-watches.
Bell & Ross
As the official watchmaking partner of the Renault Sport Formula One Team, Bell & Ross has designed the Bell & Ross BR-X1 RS17 Only Watch with elements essential to a timepiece designed for racing drivers. The 44mm Carbone Forge and ceramic case with rubber inserts houses the automatic BR-CAL.313. Only Watch auction estimate: $23,000 - $29,000.
The Bovet Secret Beauty for Only Watch features a Geisha hand painted on the mother-of-pearl dial that combines layers of traditional painting and Super-LumiNova, rendering it visible day and night. In a nod to the erotic watches of the 19th century, the Geisha bares her sensual charms when night falls. Only Watch auction estimate: $57,000 - $62,000.
Carl F. Bucherer
The Manero Peripheral Only Watch 2017 model’s peripheral rotor appears in the same royal blue as the leather strap, indexes and the “eleven” of the date (which alludes to the date of the Only Watch auction). The white gold watch is driven by the automatic caliber CFB A2050. Only Watch auction estimate: $19,000 - $24,000.
The Flying Regulator Red Passion has a 40mm DLC-coated stainless steel case and dial construction on several levels, lending a unique 3-D effect. The caliber C.122 automatic movement, visible through the caseback, features a skeletonized rotor in red. Only Watch auction estimate: $10,000 - $17,000.
H. Moser & Cie.
Part of the H. Moser & Cie. series of Concept watches, the Venturer Concept Only Watch takes a minimalist approach in its design with a red fumé, sunburst-pattern dial devoid of indexes and logo. The 39mm white gold watch is powered by the hand-wound HMC 327. Only Watch auction estimate: $20,000 - $30,000.
A reinterpretation of the legendary Grande Seconde, this 43mm red gold Grande Seconde Off-Centered Cuprite gives the traditional design of the Grand Seconde an aesthetic twist. The two counters, traditionally aligned on the 12 o’clock/6 o’clock axis, are shifted, while the crown is at 4 o’clock. The cuprite dial is handcrafted to colorful perfection. Only Watch auction estimate: $31,000 - $41,000.
The hypnotic “Black & Fire” Escale Spin Time incorporates the hour display principle of the Spin Time movement in the Escale case. Twelve unique cubes in red, orange and yellow, painted by hand using pad printing at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, decorate the dial of this 41mm titanium watch with white gold horns and crown. Only Watch auction estimate: $52,000 - $83,000.
For Only Watch 2017, Maurice Lacroix introduces the Aikon Automatic Chronograph, paving the way for automatic movements in the formerly all- quartz collection. The 44mm dark gray PVD stainless steel case houses the automatic winding caliber ML157 with a perlage-decorated mainplate and bridges and rotor with Côtes de Genève. Only Watch auction estimate: $3,600 - $4,600.
