Rado’s new 37mm Captain Cook Automatic Limited Edition includes just 1,962 pieces, commemorating the year the Swiss brand first introduced this model into its collection. Available for just a short time, between 1962 and 1968, the Captain Cook was reintroduced in 2017, and it has been a mainstay since.
This new edition, while true to the original 1962 model, features a variety of notable updates, such as the high-tech black ceramic insert for the steel rotating bezel and the sapphire crystal for optimum dial protection. The watch’s movement, the automatic ETA C07.611, offers a very modern eighty hours of power reserve. The watch’s handsome brown sun brushed dial features printed indexes treated with off-white SuperLuminova for a classic look, displaying hours, minutes, seconds and date in red at 3 o’clock.
Vintage watch fans will recognize the polished stainless steel case design, the beautiful box-shaped sapphire crystal, the three seahorses stamped on the steel caseback and the sword- and arrow-shaped hands (also treated with vintage-look SuperLuminova), which are true to the Captain Cook timepiece of yore. The caseback is engraved with the number of the watch within the limited edition.
The Captain Cook Limited Edition gives options. Not feeling the finely stitched brown vintage leather strap with stainless steel pin buckle on any particular day? A stainless steel Milanese bracelet and a green NATO strap are also included. All are at the ready in a durable brown leather travel pouch, along with a strap-changing tool, suitable for any explorer. Price: $2,100
