Frederique Constant’s New Classic Moon

While Frederique Constant has offered watches with a separate moonphase function for years in its 38.8mm Slimline Collection, this past week the Geneva-based manufacturer extended that option to its slightly larger (42mm) Classic collection.

Two models in the new Frederique Constant Classics Moonphase Manufacture series.

Earlier Classic models offered the moonphase display doubled up in the same subdial as the date calendar. This new Classic Moonphase Manufacture features new manufacture caliber FC-712, based on the company's FC-700 movement series. Here, the caliber has been redesigned in order to split the moonphase and date into two counters.

The new automatic movement is Frederique Constant's twenty-ninth made in-house. Both the date and the moonphase functions are adjustable via the crown. Through the transparent caseback, the movement shows off the perlage and circular Côtes de Genève decorations, which Frederique Constant uses to decorate all its in-house calibers.

The new watch series is offered with silver or navy blue-colored dials in either rose gold-plated or polished stainless-steel 42mm cases. The watch's three-part case holds an exhibition caseback to display the new caliber.

Frederique Constant’s selection of manufacture movement watches remain one of the true high-value options within the select crowd of Geneva-based watchmakers. In fact, the brand’s Flyback Chronograph Manufacture ranks as one of the strongest value options we’ve seen anywhere for its particular set of functions.

With this in mind, it’s gratifying, and not too surprising, that Frederique Constant also includes additional high-end features, beyond the in-house caliber, in this new Classic Moonphase Manufacture. These include a nicely curved dial, a convex sapphire crystal, printed roman numeral indexes and hand-polished hands. Finally, the dark brown, black or blue croco calf leather strap completes the look. Prices: $2,595 to $2,895.
