TAG Heuer has updated its popular Carrera Caliber 16 chronograph, introducing two new models with shorter case lugs, larger subdials, more luminescence and a dash of color. The idea, according to TAG Heuer, is to ‘modernize’ the 41mm Caliber 16 with heightened legibility and style.
While these changes are subtle, the most obvious difference with these new black and blue-dialed models is the lack of a metallic edge along the blue or black ceramic tachymeter bezel and a flange color extending from the dial. This makes for a dial that appears just slightly larger when compared to the existing Caliber 16 models.
For now, TAG Heuer is offering two dials: sunray black or sunray blue, with a few lume updates. Instead of a SuperLuminova dot at each index, the index markers are now filled with the luminescent material. On the black dial, you’ll now find a red accent at the tips of the central seconds hand and subdial hands, on the start/stop pusher and on the (now darkened) flange from 12 to 3 o’clock. On the blue-dial models these accents are orange.
TAG Heuer is introducing the new Carrera Caliber 16 on steel bracelet and on a leather strap. One, with the blue dial and the light brown perforated calfskin strap, is a winner for sure with a clear racing style. Its counterpart also features the dial in sunray blue but has a stainless-steel bracelet. The watches with a black dial come with a stainless-steel bracelet or a perforated black leather strap with red stitching.
Powering each of the new models is the automatic Caliber 16, protected by a stamped caseback with the collection name and a tire-track pattern. TAG Heuer has also updated the crown just a bit with a touch more black lacquer around the center and the shield.
